Creator’s Breath Defeats the Night

Hope rises from grief—written in response to the tragic loss of a mother and son in Coulee Dam, Washington, December 2025.
Lyrics by Jeffrey Cummings and music with vocals generated by Songer.co.

The foggy gloom, it takes its toll,
It swallows up a person’s soul.

Darkness carries tragic tales,
Hope locked sure behind a veil.

Deceit at work in shadows dark,
tortured, pain to break the heart.

Bitter shackles take the key,
Prevent the soul from breaking free.

Peace is gone and fear prevails,
Hate is strong and comfort fails.

A river swollen, sorrow flows,
It steals our breath, it drowns our souls.

The lie will tell us all is lost,
The damage done, too high a cost.

And yet, a rescue stands so nigh,
A hero true who hears our cry.

Darkness flees at His command,
He takes our hand so we can stand!

He is the Way, the Truth, the Life,
He carries us to heavenly heights.

As rain revives the land from drought,
He cleanses us from sin and doubt.

He breaks our chains and sets us free,
He bore our sorrows, paid the fee.

The soul at peace in power divine,
A branch now grafted in His vine.

Held fast within Creator’s arms,
Beloved of Him—our great reward.

His thoughts of us outnumber sand,
Our names engraved upon His hand.

He lavished us with grace and peace,
What He began will never cease.

The fog of gloom can’t stand the Light,
Creator’s breath defeats the night.

Dear soul, lift up your head, your face toward Life,
Release the weight of heavy strife.

Creator loves you—this I know,
Your very spirit tells you so.

Hope resides within your midst,
Emmanuel—Heaven’s greatest gift.

And when you doubt that this is true,
He still remains and calls to you.
He still remains and calls to you.
