YOU’RE EXTRAORDINARY!

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground…”

Dust of the ground. ORDINARY. It’s in every nook and cranny of the earth. Common, ordinary.

“…and [the LORD] breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” ~ Genesis 2:7

The dust of the earth is very ordinary but when it is infused by the breath of God, it becomes EXTRAORDINARY! A human created in God’s very image.

“When He [Jesus] had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.” ~ John 9:6-7

Ordinary dirt, ordinary spit, ordinary pool of water. Mixed, shaped, and applied by Jesus, the clay carries the miraculous power of God to heal the blind man.

I was searching, without success, to photograph a bobcat that had been spotted in the area. Walking back to the car, a flock of American Robins caught my attention. The early morning rain had served the birds a fresh puddle of water. Flitting from the nearby trees to the puddle, the robins enjoyed an early morning drink. I wasn’t that interested in photographing robins. My library is full of them. And the birds are common enough.

An ordinary American Robin. An ordinary mud puddle on the side of the road. But, I lifted my camera anyway, took aim, and focused, and the shutter sounded off in rapid-fire as I pressed the button! Click, click, click!

To my delight, I captured a nearly perfect reflection of the ordinary robin, in an ordinary puddle, with a drop of ordinary water dripping from its beak.

That’s when the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart. EXTRAORDINARY! In my case, the interplay of ordinary factors made for an extraordinary composition.

“See, that’s what I do.” The Holy Spirit whispered to me. I make ordinary things EXTRAORDINARY!

It’s a good reminder to never underestimate how EXTRAORDINARY you are in Jesus! Extraordinary is what He does!
