Who am I this week?

HEAVENLY FATHER’S CONFIDANTE

(a person to whom private matters are confided)

My wife and I have a secret. Actually, we have many secrets. There are special secret memories. Secret dreams and ideas. Secret qualities, habits, physical characteristics. Secret words! There are things that only the two of us know together. These secrets both build intimacy and trust and are a result of such.

When the kids were at home there was not much privacy. Occasionally we would need to find a private space or whisper to each other so the kids would not hear what we needed to communicate. Often, we would catch one of them straining their ears to listen in. We affectionately referred to one of our daughters as Corn Patch, because she was always trying to hear our “secrets”. She wanted to know the plan and get the latest news (especially if it was about one of her sisters). We also shared secrets as a family. These special secrets promoted family unity and togetherness.

One of our secrets is super special. One day… Oh, what am I doing? I can’t tell you… it’s our secret :)

God has secrets too. His will is mysterious (it’s a secret), but it’s a secret He gladly shares with His children!

“…having made known to us the mystery [secret] of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.” ~ Ephesians 1:9-10

In previous inspirations, we explored the fact that we are BLESSED, CHOSEN, ADOPTED, ACCEPTED, and REDEEMED. In a family relationship with God, we have the intimacy of disclosure. Our Father tells us His secrets. We are His confidantes!

As a child of God, you carry the secrets of God! Listen… He will whisper them in your ear.

Jesus described the intimate aspect of our relationship with the Father as follows:

“No longer do I [Jesus] call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” ~ John 15:15

Jesus makes a distinction between a servant and a friend. A servant serves without explanation. He does what he’s told because he’s told. The master has no obligation to provide any more than the command itself. But a friend has a much higher clearance level of communication and revelation. We do not serve God as slaves or servants. We serve God as His children. The relationship is intimate. And yes, we still serve, but as CHILDREN in a family relationship.

Jesus has told us the secrets that He shares with His Father. He has brought us into the loop. He helps us understand. This truth does not mean we know everything that God does. We are His children. My children did not have the maturity to know everything at once. As they grew, we disclosed more. The point is the intimacy we have with our Heavenly Father in a family relationship means He shares His secrets with us.

When God spoke with Moses, He spoke with him face-to-face, as a man speaks to his friend (Exodus 33:11)! Moses served God out of a relationship of intimacy (Exodus 33:12-23).

Through intimacy, God revealed Himself to Moses in ways the people of Israel did not see. “He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.” ~ Psalm 103:7

Israel only saw God’s acts. But Moses knew God’s ways – INTIMACY!

As a child of God, you carry the secrets of God! Listen… He will whisper them in your ear.

“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:10

“The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.” ~ Psalm 25:14

God has shown you the “mystery of His will” so that you can understand your inclusion, position, service, and benefits in His divine plan!

He has shown us His covenant – the new covenant in Jesus’ blood! It was a long-awaited mystery that was revealed in Jesus Christ. And only His children can understand it (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Do you realize that your Heavenly Father finds great pleasure in whispering His secrets to you? He desires your listening ear. Do you want God’s wisdom? Ask Him! He will tell you that which was not formerly known by you (James 1:5).

This is His delight! His revelation is “according to His good pleasure…” And according to His pre-planned purpose!

It is in the dispensation of the fullness of the times. The word used for dispensation signifies the “management of household affairs”. This further emphasizes the significance of FAMILY business. You have been brought into the inner sanctum of family. His family affairs are your affairs.

And the secret He is disclosing here in Ephesians is that in the climax of ages, God is unifying all things in heaven and earth and consummating them in Christ who is also the Head. He is completing His family! He is building His “home”.

As I write, tears stream down my cheeks. The stirring deep down is joy, awe, gratitude, and peace! Secrets. Divine secrets. Secrets from the holy of holies. Secrets from the throne room. Secret communion. Revelations of His will. Secrets of His heart’s desire imparted to my heart. Secrets meant for me. Secrets for you.

Listen.

He is whispering.

What is His secret to you today? What special word or experience are you sharing with your Heavenly Father?

“Secret Whispers”

The male House Finch leans in close to his mate as if to whisper some sweet nothings or give her a little “peck” on the cheek. I chose the photo for this inspiration because it presents an intimate moment. The Heavenly Father whispers His secrets to us and there is divine intimacy that sings through eternity.
